"Das semantische Web (auch Semantic Web) ist eine Erweiterung des World Wide Web (WWW) um maschinenlesbare Daten, welche die Semantik der Inhalte formal festlegen" (Wikipedia). Wissensentdeckung und -verarbeitung spielt in diesem Zusammenhang eine wichtige Rolle. Statt Semantic Web Informationen von Hand hinzuzufügen können diese automatisch in Daten aufgedeckt oder aus Daten generiert werden. Das entlastet die Nutzer und ist ein wichtiger Erfolgsfaktor für die Zukunft des Semantic Web.
